For more than three decades, Mike Gaudy has been on the sidelines, classrooms and athletic offices of Brevard County, but that career will conclude in two weeks.Gaudy announced on Thursday his resignation as Cocoa Beach athletic director, effective August 1. He has held the administrative job for almost a quarter of a century.
Gaudy came to Cocoa Beach to coach football but has coached baseball, track and field, cheerleading and basketball. It is basketball where he will be best remembered, having coached for 29 seasons.
Gaudy’s 2004 boys team won a state championship in Class 3A, matching the accomplishment of his 1988 girls squad, which won a 2A title. While coaching the girls, he led the program to six state tournament appearances, and he was 37-17 in the playoffs.
