Mike Gaudy to retire

For more than three decades, Mike Gaudy has been on the sidelines, classrooms and athletic offices of Brevard County, but that career will conclude in two weeks.

Gaudy announced on Thursday his resignation as Cocoa Beach athletic director, effective August 1. He has held the administrative job for almost a quarter of a century.

Gaudy came to Cocoa Beach to coach football but has coached baseball, track and field, cheerleading and basketball. It is basketball where he will be best remembered, having coached for 29 seasons.

Gaudy’s 2004 boys team won a state championship in Class 3A, matching the accomplishment of his 1988 girls squad, which won a 2A title. While coaching the girls, he led the program to six state tournament appearances, and he was 37-17 in the playoffs.

Anyone know where he's going? He's too young to retire.

I attended CBHS when coach Gaudy first started. He was a football coach back then. He is the face of CBHS sports and will forever be missed. His contributions to the athletics at CBHS and BC school system are many. I think we may never see a basketball coach of his caliber again. Good luck in retirement Coach Gaudy!

I was a student at CBHS when coach first started, we all thought he was soooo cute back then and he was a pretty good teacher. Fast forward to 2002 when Space Coast High school was just getting started and he was kind enough to share his facility with us so our kids had a place to make wonderful memories. You are a class act Coach Gaudy! Good Luck to you and your family!

I had the honor to work with Coach Gaudy at Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr High School for a few years and learned that he is truly a class act! He supported atheletics, academics, and the performing arts. While I have many great memories, my favorite is his closing remarks on the morning announcements..."Beach Pride"! Mike Gaudy thank you for giving of your time and energy to make Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr High an outstanding school! BEACH PRIDE!!!

Coach Gaudy has developed a wonderful athletic department at the Beach. He has had success not just by winning district, conference, regional and state championships but by developing the type of players and coach's that have had the privilege to call CBHS home. The coach's and players that served under Mike earned an education not just in athletics but also in learning how to become better citizens. Some of us simply call this TRADITION!!!
Mike thank you for everything. GO BEACH!!!

I have had the pleasure as a parent of watching Coach Gaudy coach my child and can honestly say that he is a one of a kind human being. He also has hand picked the finest in coaches of all the various sports to serve on his staff. CBHS is an amazing place for both academics and sports, the entire environment there is by far the best in the county and I have been here since 1979 and attended Brevard schools from elem thru highschool, although did not attend CBHS myself. What an incredible loss to not only CBHS families but to the county as a whole. God bless you Coach and your family, the selfless display of affection and dedication you have shown us all will forever be remembered and appreciated. We only hope you continue to attend CBHS athletic events because they will not be the same without you! BEACH PRIDE, GO BEACH!!
